Pennsylvania General Energy Deploys Pingtel SIPxchange for Companywide VoIP

Burlington, Mass., September 12, 2007 - Pingtel, a Bluesocket Company and the leading provider of open source SIP-based Enterprise Communications Systems (ECS), today announced that Pennsylvania General Energy (PGE), a leading gas and oil producer, has installed Pingtel's SIPxchange? ECS at its headquarters in Warren, Penn., to deliver improved voice communications to its entire staff.

PGE initiated a market wide search for a new Private Branch eXchange (PBX) to replace its existing solution which often clipped conversations and frequently caused echoing, making it difficult to conduct conference calls. After a thorough vendor evaluation process, PGE selected SIPxchange from Pingtel to provide a standards-based open source voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solution to its staff of nearly 100 employees. By selecting the SIPxchange IP PBX, PGE takes advantage of the SIP-standard interoperability, low total cost of ownership, and complete system support that are inherent to the solution.

"SIPxchange contains the feature set, scalability, reliability and ease of use we were looking for," said Glenn Slocum of SDC Associates, Inc., IT director at PGE. "The Web-based management makes the entire phone system - including managing phones, gateways and other devices-extremely easy to use. After receiving a demo from an existing Pingtel customer, moving forward with SIPxchange was an easy decision for us to make."

With SIPxchange's native session initiation protocol (SIP) compatibility, PGE is able to integrate its existing Polycom phones - saving on overall system replacement costs. PGE relies on these phones to monitor the presence of more than 40 employees using busy lamp fields on their Polycom 601 attendant consoles. An AudioCodes MP-118 stand-alone FXO gateway connects the solution to the public switched telephone network (PSTN), and the entire system is centrally managed through Pingtel's Web-based SIPxchange management console.

"PGE serves as a great example of SIPxchange's interoperability and architectural flexibility," said Martin Steinmann, vice president of product management at Bluesocket. "SIPxchange gives PGE complete control of its phone system and allows the mixing and matching of components based on a best-of-breed strategy that saves money and future-proofs the system."

Pingtel was acquired by Bluesocket in July 2007. By combining the strengths of the companies, Bluesocket is now positioned to be among the first WLAN/Mobility companies to offer turnkey unified mobile communication solutions - meeting the demands of today's mobile enterprise.
