Burlington, Mass. – December 11, 2007 Bluesocket, Inc., the leader in trusted wireless access and enterprise mobility, today announced that the 2007 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox have deployed its technology to provide secure guest access, additional network bandwidth and reliable wireless coverage to members of the media and facility operations personnel during the playoff season.
Based on their experience in recent years, the Red Sox IT staff knew their wireless network would be stressed by hundreds of additional media members covering the home playoff games at Fenway Park. Acting on the recommendation of their IT solutions partner, Ayacht Technology Solutions (ATS), the Red Sox implemented the BlueSecure 5200 Controller platform from Bluesocket to deliver secure network access and guest management to designated areas of Fenway Park.
With the Bluesocket solution in place, media members at Fenway registered through a Red Sox branded web portal, allowing them to instantly connect to the internet. This secure and reliable network access, in conjunction with bandwidth management capabilities, enabled journalists and photographers to file stories and upload digital photographs of game action in real-time, giving media outlets and fans immediate access to scores, player stats, commentary and analysis. The Bluesocket management system was also used by the Red Sox IT staff to proactively monitor network usage patterns and manage bandwidth for high reliability as well as maintain network security with intrusion detection/prevention capabilities.
“With somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 devices connecting to our network during the early series and hundreds more by the time the World Series rolled around, we knew we had to increase our network bandwidth to support a variety of operational requirements,” said Steve Conley, Director of IT for the Boston Red Sox. "The media were very pleased with the ease and reliability offered by the Bluesocket solution and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. The bottom line is that the critical security features and added level of network management we were able to rely on during this exciting playoff run means nobody knows my name. And that’s a good thing.”
Dedicated to building a first-class product on and off the field, the Red Sox organization was looking to provide a seamless and dependable work environment for the visiting international media contingent as well as a positive experience for their fan base. In addition to supplying wireless connectivity to the press, the Bluesocket solution delivered supplemental network capacity and management for other wireless applications at Fenway, supporting the reliable delivery of in-seat Internet service and available bandwidth for ticket scanning and food service.
“The expanded use of wireless technology for a variety of services and fan activities is a growing trend in the sports and entertainment markets, said Mads Lillelund, president and CEO at Bluesocket. “We are pleased to be working with the Boston Red Sox to help them meet their wireless networking and mobility needs at such an exciting time for the club and their fans.”
The Red Sox join many leading sports and entertainment facilities benefiting from the enhanced visitor experience and increased operational efficiencies delivered by Bluesocket’s secure wireless and mobility solutions including Shea Stadium, EnergySolutions Arena and Miller Motorsports Park.
